It was an amazing invention, it was great for training and recreational use as well. He turned to Shimply, who had followed him in. "Well Mr. Shimply, i think its time to get creative. Why dont we start by programming a simple defensive program, for defending the ship and then add some creative turns to it." (Reply Shimply) "Ahhhh thatll make the job easier, well if you load that program up we can add our "creative turns" to it" Jono smiled and looked around. (Reply Shimply) The holodeck suddenly started up with a program of the Nimitz on, they were located on the bridge, the program froze as Shimply commanded it too. "Right then, lets get to work...." Shimply began programming the holodeck program, Jono began feeding him ideas but wasnt surprised when Shimply began feeding his own ideas into the program. After a while they were finished with the ship program, anything and everything that could pose a threat to the crew, basically happened in the program, and it was as realistic as he and Shimply could make it. "Well I think, this program will do it. It has weapons and hand-to-hand combat, and some extras." (Reply Shimply) Jono turned around and tapped his comm badge, "Ensign Jono Janeway to Leutenant Tagon, the holodeck program is finished sir." (Reply Jono(iyw), any) "Well, lets take this to Holodeck 1 and get started. I don't think we have much time, so, every minute counts." They then left together talking about various things that they needed to accomplish and areas that should be covered. (USS Nimitz - Holodeck 1 - Security Crewman Daigon Shimply - 1345) As they entered the holodeck, Jono turned to him, "Well Mr. Shimply, I think its time to get creative. Why don't we start by programming a simple defensive program, for defending the ship and then add some creative turns to it." "Well, I have created a training program for myself that adds as many extra security personnel I might want. We can also add the difficulty level of the scenario and we can change the opponent as we want." Shimply informed the Ensign. "Ahhhh that'll make the job easier, well if you load that program up we can add our "creative turns" to it" Jono smiled and looked around. Daigon walked over to the computer section of the room near the door. "Computer run Daigon Hell 10, Gamma Zebra one two niner." The area in the holodeck changed to what the program called for, which, started anyone in this program on the bridge, "Computer freeze program." Daigon said and everything frozen as he looked over at Jono. "Right then, lets get to work...." Jono said As he and Jono discussed different options, he programmed them. It did not take them long to finish the program with two like minded people working on it. They both wanted to make sure that the Security of the ship and it's personnel were top priority. To do this they had to make sure that the security teams were up to speed, with this program, they would be. Once the program was running, whoever was in the holodeck would not be able to tell if it was a program or real. Daigon smiled as he knew it was probably the best program he had wrote and it was with the help of a fellow security member. "Well I think, this program will do it. It has weapons and hand-to-hand combat, and some extras." Jono stated Daigon thought about the many things that they had put in it and tried to figure if there were anything they could have added that they had not. He could not at that moment think of anything else that should be in it. "I think you are right, sir, there is nothing that we could add that would make it any better. Ready to let Lt. Tagon know?" Daigon listened as Jono tapped his comm badge, "Ensign Jono Janeway to Lieutenant Tagon, the holodeck program is finished sir." He found Weston working at a console and said, "Hi Debbie. Take a look at this." Miles said, holding out the PADD. (Reply Weston, any) (Posted by Matt Kirk) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Engineering -Engineer Debbie Weston - 1452) Debbie's favorite past time was tinkering. She thought that she could make anything run better if she could put the time into it. Unfortunately, on a Starship, so many things were in constant use, like the engines, that she rarely had time to take anything apart and play with them. However, this energy transfer panel had been giving them trouble for some time now, and since everyone was working on something else more important, she thought she'd take care of it. It also gave her time to sort out her thoughts in solitude. As long as she was working everyone knew better than to disturb her. Well, almost everyone. "Hi Debbie. Take a look at this." Miles said, holding out the padd. Weston banged her head on the panel and cried out. "What?!!" she yelled, then saw who it was. Rubbing her head she moved away from the panel carefully. "Miles! What do you want?" O'Neill held out the padd again in a more insistent manner. Debbie knew that look and knew she wasn't going to get to finish what she was doing until she appeased him. He was an officer and she was a simple engineer, but this had nothing to do with rank. She just knew him. Rolling her eyes she took the padd and looked down at it. "You want to tell me what I'm looking at?" she asked before reading anything. Then her eyes began to scan the information. Her frown began to disappear as she read and the throbbing of her bump subsided. "Interesting," was all she said. Then she tossed the padd back at him, and turned her attention back to the panel she'd been working on. She spoke as she worked at putting the panel back together. She'd actually fixed the problem about twenty minutes ago, but she'd been working on improving the design to make it more efficient. "Changing warp signatures is not that difficult a task. Ships have been doing it for years. But some of what Zzt wants is quite complicated. He wants it to be able to hold up under a scan, and that's where the problem lies. We'll need to make the warp signature seem a little more solid." (reply O'Neill) She scotched out from the panel and put the access plate back on, grateful for the hand that Miles was giving her. He was a nice guy, for the most part. A little dense at times, as most men tend to be. Sometimes she wondered if he liked girls, as he only talked to her about engineering stuff. "Any idea of where you plan to start?" Debbie said. "Well, I was thinking of making some adjustments to the warp flux transducer, however that might leave us a bit shorthanded, power-wise. All of the scenarios that they came up with just simply used up too much power. They'd never be able to pull off all the Zzt had promised, using them. She stood up from the table that was in the middle of the room and started pacing. "We're going about this all wrong," she said, frustration flowing in her voice. "What is a warp signature? It's the mark left in space by the passing of a ship using warp. That energy signature is unique to the warp core. The problem is, that we need to change the energy signature of the warp core, without loosing any power. The warp flux transducer was a good start, but it just didn't work. We couldn't hold the static warp shell. " She sighed and continued to pace. Looking over at Miles, she couldn't even tell if he were interested in what she was saying. He had an annoying habit of paying attention, even if he didn't look like he was. She threw her padd at him, and he caught it deftly. This was one of those moments. ~Bastard!~ "Wake up bub," she said with a smile. "I'm talking to you." (reply O'Neill) "We need to figure out how to change the amount of energy output from our..." she slapped herself in the head. "Can we rearrange the dilithium crystals? Or at least change the resonance frequency of the crystals as they regulate the mater/antimatter reaction?" ~Now why didn't I think of that?!~ Miles thought as he smiled. "It's entirely possible! Let's run a simulation!" He said enthusastically. (Reply Weston) As they worked on figuring out how to rearrange the crystals, Miles said to her, "To make the Nimitz look like a Defiant-class vessel, the first one on the list, we should adjust the resonance frequency by 0.0075 Cochranes. That's only a rough estimate, though. Remember, this has got to be exact, a slight variation could make this fail, and might burn out the crystals." There were few people there, most of them were either on their shift, or sleeping. Miles didn't mind, though, he liked it a bit when there weren't many people in there, it gave him a chance to think. ~I certainly hope we'll make it through this.~ Miles thought, as he took his drink. ~We should, we've gone through worse, or at least, the Nimitz has.~ (Reply any) (Posted by Matt Kirk) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 2 2407.02.05 (USS Nimitz - Deck 3, Personal Quarters- ACMO Dr. Jonas Lemar - 03:56) [Please restate search parameters] Jonas rubbed his head and leaned back in his chair. He had not been able to sleep at all that night, despite trying all the traditional non-medical methods in the database. As he wiped the sleep from his eyes he made another attempt with the computer. "Load my parents' medical files" [Acknowledged] As the data displayed on his monitor Jonas nodded satisfactorily. He had already been viewing these but his tiredness had caused him to give the computer the wrong instructions forcing him to start from scratch. "Search all details for references to Spinal Muscular Atrophy, types one through four" Jonas had done his best not to let the news of his possible illness play on his mind, but he couldn't help it - he was only human. [Working, please stand by] Jonas watched as text and numerical data scrolled up the screen. He shook his head as there seemed no sign of the disease on their records. For BigWill to be right then both of his parents would have to have been carriers for the disease. The fact that they weren't made things all the more puzzling. Jonas picked up his mug of hot milk, taking another sip. ~Mmm, nothing like it in the galaxy~ he thought as he swallowed down the drink. Placing his mug back on the desk he then asked, "Computer, display all known data on type four Spinal Muscular Atrophy" [*chirp*] Jonas watched as pages and pages of information appeared on his minotor. "I'm looking forward to the scavenger hunt tonight, you?" he said, making an obvious effort to engage the new ensign in conversation. She was just so nervous and he wanted to ensure her that she was safe here. "Yes, sir, I hope we will have fun then?" Sash stood there for a moment, uncertain as to what to say next. He was never very good at small talk, and he had exhausted his own desire to converse. He'd already stepped all over Hromava's shift, and now that Wolfe was up and about, he thought it best to bid a hasty retreat. "Lunch then, Ensign," he said. She thought about reading up on his species, and she wondered how much reading there was. She didn't know what he was driving at, and she tried her best to look more comfortable, to no avail. She remembered her training, and didn't know if it applied here and now. She responded to him keeping things neutral for now. She noticed he stood there, and she didn't know what to do. ~Is there something he wants that I should know? Am I suppose to just stand here? Why is he talking to me? What did I do wrong?~ She thought not sure of anything any more. "I will see you then, sir." She said not sure of what else to say. She returned to her work once he had departed, and she wondered how much time she would have between the end of her shift and her meeting him for lunch. She wanted to be prepared for when they were to meet next, but she knew sleep would come first. She concentrated on her console again, and hurried to catch up to the messages. She knew she still had some time, so she decided to continue to read up on her latest findings. She found a lot of information on Angosians, and she wondered if she would be able to get through it all before her shift was over. She didn't think so, and decided to save that reading for later. She looked to see what information they had on her race, and wasn't happy with the little information they had listed. She saw a couple internal messages, and wondered why anyone would want power to those systems. She didn't take it to higher authority, and gave the necessary power. A few minutes later she found an article on scavanger hunt and decided to read up, hoping it wouldn't take long. Suddenly she noticed a power spike was starting to form at tactile, and another one had formed. She didn't know what was going on, as she hadn't given any power to either station recently. She had kept them running on low power since they hadn't had much to do. She runs a diagnostic on her station wondering if anything is wrong. "Would you always run a diganostic on your station if you have a power overload?" She heard from someone behind her. The voice was familiar too. "I only do that when I am sure those stations couldn't have a power overload. Both stations have been running on low power all shift." She said not taking her eyes from her station to identify the voice. (Tag bix?, or anyone on the bridge) (Posted by Liz) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Security Target Range- SC/TAC- Lt. Dru Tagon- 0655) Tagon stood in the middle of the firing range. Normally, he didn't particularly care for weapons. Phasers were poorly designed for Brikarian hands. However, necessity made for desire, and Tagon never did anything in a small way, so he became quite proficient. His final score at the academy was just short of the record, and he would have beaten it but in a moment of excitement he crushed the control pad to the phaser, creating an overload that was narrowly averted and disqualified his score. He learned from that and decided that he would never show excitement again. And he had been true to his word. If someone had shown up naked in front of him and offered to fulfill his every wildest fantasy, he would have reacted exactly the same as if they had said that he could get water from the replicator. So now the firing range played out through its programming and Tagon fired as if he didn't even need to look at his target. The truth was he did, but since he did it with the slightest of movement it all appeared to happen in a blur. And it would have required a medical tricorder to authenticate that he was actually awake. The door to the fire range opened and Tagon looked over to see Rozen step in tentatively. The tone went of signifying that a target had been launched. Without thinking Tagon fired and the target disappeared. "End program," he said. Then he looked at Rozen. "Yoeman, are you ready?" (reply Rozen) (posted by Al Muir) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Corridor - Yeoman Ansia Rozen - 0656) Ansia was standing outside the Target range trying to get up enough nerve to enter. She just really did not want to learn how to fire or qualify. But, she did want to do what the captain had order, not that she liked him, but, that she was under his command. The captain was law on a starship and everyone had to obey him as long as the order was lawful. This did not come under the subject of an unlawful order, but, under one that basically states that all crew will be proficient on personal weapons in case of intruders or attack. There were just no way for her to get out of it. "Yeoman Rozen to Captain Sash, Sir, I will be a bit late to the bridge. I am taking my first weapons training class today with Lt. Tagon." She informed him trying to keep her shaking out of her voice. (Reply Sash, any) (USS Nimitz - Security Target Range - Yeoman Ansia Rozen - 0658) Ansia had never liked things that made a load noise and made something come out the other end. To her that was just wrong when you could do so much better up close and personal. As she stepped in to the Firing Range, slowly, she jumped when someone fired on a target without her knowing that practice was going on. Then she noticed Tagon on the firing line with a weapon in his hand. "End program," he said without even looking in her direction to see if it was her.. Then as he turned toward her. "Yoeman, are you ready?" "Well, sir. To tell you the truth, not really." She said not really making a move to get too close to the firing line. "I have always been a bit afraid of firing weapons." (reply from Sash, Tagon, any) (posted by Frank) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Security Target Range- SC/TAC- Lt. Dru Tagon- 0701) Tagon nodded at Rozen, noticing her obvious discomfort. He'd seen it before, and probably would see it again. The fear of the weapon is worst problem to overcome. Still, it has to be overcome, otherwise the results could prove fatal. But first he had to make Rozen feel a bit more comfortable. He put his phaser on a shelf on the wall and came back to her. "Let's start off slow," he said, holding up his hands. He could see that she didn't understand him. "Attack me Yoeman." A quizical look came across her face. He sighed. "I saw in your record that you were a formidable fighter. I want you to attack me at full strength. Full contact. Go for the kill." (reply Rozen) (posted by Al Muir) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Security Target Range - Yeoman Ansia Rozen - 0723) Ansia saw Tagon nod to her, then, he walked over to the wall where he placed his weapon on the shelf there. He returned to her he holding up his hands, "Let's start off slow," he said. She had no clue as to what he meant by 'start off slow'. He soon figured out that she had not understood what he meant and continued, "Attack me Yeoman." She gave Tagon a funny look, she had thought this was a weapons class not a class in hand to hand. She just stood there waiting for the punch line as this Lieutenant was probably just like Mendez and the others making fun of her. It was bad enough that she had to learn energy weapons to attain a certain amount of proficiency, now he was mocking her. Tagon sighed. "I saw in your record that you were a formidable fighter. I want you to attack me at full strength. Full contact. Go for the kill." She was not in a really good mood after what happened in Ten Forward then in Sick bay. She knew that if it was reported to the Captain, she would probably be sent packing away from Starfleet. She had just begun and to be kicked out because of Mendez's childish acts was not making her very happy. Now this Lieutenant was telling her to attack him, to go for the Kill. If he had really read her file, he would not be telling her to go for the kill. She could do it with only a few precise hits and then she would be brought up for murder; was that what he wanted. She started walking around him, studying him, trying to see if there were any weak spots that she could exploit. She could see that as a Brikar, he had natural defense, a tough outer layer. She figured that he could probably withstand a few phaser blasts and not even feel them. Normally, she was the one to react to any attack, not the one instigating one. Her senses were not with her because, she thought, that he was not going to attack her. The one thing that she could probably rely on was when she did attack, his counter would trigger what she would do next. She started slow with a few combination attacks to see if they would work, they hit him and hit him hard. Tagon just stood there and took the hits as if she had done nothing. She continued to try different tactics, but, still nothing phased him and after twenty minutes, she was starting to become very frustrated. Her attacks started to become more pointed and to vital areas that should have and would have killed anyone else. But, Tagon just stood there absorbing everything she threw at him. She started to tire and her fighting was starting to suffer when all of a sudden in the middle of what she thought would be a lethal blow, Tagon caught her arm. (reply Tagon, any) (posted Frank) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Security Target Range- SC/TAC- Lt. Dru Tagon- 0725) Tagon stood and watched as the Yeoman circled him. He didn't even bother to turn as she came behind him. He felt fairly confident that there was little she could do to actually damage him badly. And if she could, it would be important to know that. Suddenly she went into her attack. It was quite an impressive display, and he was certain that if he were human he would have been injured severely, or even dead, several times over. However, his tough hyde was able to absorb everything that she threw at him. At one point he thought of taunting her by asking if that was her best, but then decided to remain silent. She threw punches, kicks, combinations, at one point she even attempted a joint lock on him, but couldn't find the joint. He could see that her intensity was beginning to slack, and her power diminishing. Then he could sense her draw upon her remaining strength for one final assault. As her hand came hat him he moved fast, very fast. He caught her by the arm and then wrapped his two fingers and thumb around the other hand then held her off the ground that way. Rozen struggled and kicked at him to no avail. He waited until she was completely spent and just hung there, motionless. Then he held her in front of his face to see the look of defeat on her face. He dropped her to the floor. "No matter how good you may be, there will always be someone better," he said philosophically. "Better, faster, stronger, or just tougher. What will you do then? How will you protect the captain then?" (reply Rozen) "Now you see the importance of learning to use a phaser," he said. There was no accusation in his voice. Only matter of factness. He reached down and hefted the Yeoman to her feet. "But you've got spunk. I like that." (reply Rozen) "Shall we begin again," he said, looking to see if she understood the lesson he meant to teach her. (reply Rozen) "Retrieve your weapon, and we'll start slowly, at level 1." (reply Rozen) (posted by Al Muir) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Personal Quarters - CO - Captain Devan Sash- 0730) What Falthgood had said yesterday continued to go through his mind. He had information that he didn't readily part with. It was a continual problem. Sahs just thought it was Falthgood's way of maintaining his sense of superiority. Granted, some of the information was extremely dangerous, but still, as his CO he needed to be part of the "need to know" crowd. How else can he make appropriate decisions. He hadn't slept much, he was already a little cranky, and Falthgood's attitude was never something he looked forward to. Still, he had to know what the scientist knew. The words rang through his mind, "And we can do more then just steal one, but that's a story for another time kiddies." Well another time has come. He rang the door chime and waited. (reply Falthgood) (posted by Al Muir) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Personal Quarters - Lt(jg) 'Shades' Falthgood - 0731) Zach, known as 'Shades', was in a moment of weakness. What was worse, he knew it. He was slumped topless in his desk chair, with both his feet kicked up onto his bed, with one arm curled around his bare stomach and his head supported by his free hand. His fingers slowly and gently worked at massaging the bridge of his nose, although the headache that had formed deep behind his eyes wouldn't go away with anything less then sleep... something Zach had precious little of in recent months. Visions of horror kept dancing behind his eyes. Of weapons and projects gone wild, old friends on the wrong side of a war that neither side would ultimately win. He saw his wife, his child, all the crews he'd ordered to their deaths for nothing more then a secret. They all haunted him now, worse then ever; since he had resurrected New Destiny, Trinity and Sociable. The man he knew personally as Doenitz had never been one to stop for long, the man who had once commanded him had always had twisted ideals of 'acceptable losses'. And sooner then later Doenitz would decide that Zach and LoDona's warning wouldn't be sufficient to put a hold on half the black projects he'd been involved with for so long. Zach would then be forced to deploy his old toys. But that wasn't so bad, not really. A few billion more dead would be nothing more then a statistic to the Universe in the middle of a massive war. And for personal consequences... He already had his own corner of hell reserved; the newest blood to flow at his command would only earn him a few more party favors. His silent contemplation was interrupted by the buzz of his door enunciator. Falthgood paused the rubbing of his nose and looked up at his desk monitor, which was still scrawled with line upon line of subspace theory mathematics. He'd been working on several equations long into the night, for several different purposes. The enunciator buzzed a second time, earning a grunt from Falthgood as he kicked his legs off the bed and sat up. "Come." Zach shut down the screen and turned, watching the door slide open to reveal Sash. The guy looked tired, and that wasn't to be doubted, he was a combat captain on combat patrol dealing with forces he couldn't comprehend. Still. It was fun screwing with the guy. He quirked an eyebrow slightly, "Welcome to my humble abode, Captain Spectacular. Can I get you a drink? I'm sure I've got some doughnuts around here. Rest you're head, perhaps I could sing you a lullaby..." He stopped and quirked his head to the side. "Or are you, perhaps, here for a more adult story? Something darker, perhaps with some better plot twists and a dead hero or two to liven things up?" He gestured to a seat that was almost empty, it only had five PADD's and a couple spare parts on it. He reached out blindly and grabbed one of his handy little spheres, something he knew Sash could identify as a not-quite-home-brewed scrambler device... something that wouldn't immediately be detected by the sensors. Zach quirked an eyebrow again and looked at the device as he slowly twisted it in his fingers in a deactivated state, wondering if whatever it was which had drug the Captain to junior-officers country was classified. (reply: Sash) (posted by Trout) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Personal Quarters - CO - Captain Devan Sash- 0732) Sash was never sure how to take Falthgood. the man was irreverant, to be sure. Although he bordered on the insubordinate, he usually managed to maintain a certain amount of respect. His cacophony of comments rattled off so much that most of it was lost on him. It wasn't until he held up the small sphere that Sash recognized as a scrambler. He nodded for Falthgood to turn the device on as he removed the padds and the debris from the offered chair and sat down. He watched as the device lit p and beeped, indicating that it was now working. Nobody would be ale to listen in on them, unless they were actually in the room. "Mr. Falthgood," he began, "you said a few things yesterday that's had me thinking. One of the things I was thinking was that you knew more about this... time displacement threshold, than you were telling us. I thought you might want to enlighten me with what you know about them. How is it that you know they have more than one?" It wasn't accusing, just inquiring. Falthgood's loyalty to the cause was not in question, but the man notoriously kept secrets, like it was his hobby. (reply Falthgood) (posted by Al Muir) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Personal Quarters - Lt Falthgood - 0733) "Mr. Falthgood," he began, "you said a few things yesterday that's had me thinking. One of the things I was thinking was that you knew more about this... time displacement threshold, than you were telling us. I thought you might want to enlighten me with what you know about them. How is it that you know they have more than one?" Falthgood gently placed the device on his desk and leaned back in his chair. "I told you I worked for him once, this isn't enough?" (reply: Sash) He drummed his finger on the desk as he looked off into a corner, deep in thought. To tell him was to implicate him, but Sash wasn't one to usually take orders or suggestions on blind faith. And unless Falthgood WANTED to pull rank on him later, which he didn't, Sash would have to believe that Zach knew what he was talking about. "A dark story indeed," he murmured. "Very well Captain, let's spin a tale, a good one to keep us both warm tonight." He stopped drumming his fingers by force of will. "I told you once I could move fleets on a word, which was true. I was once a Captain in Reverse Integrated Technologies, a blackbag project under the command of Commander, then Captain, then Admiral Rodrigo Doenitz. Our job started out simple, legitimate even. We teamed up with archaeologists and other such dusty jobs, dug age-old materials out of ancient places, and figured out how they worked." "It quickly became obvious," he continued, "That our work would have to be put under the tightest security This Mans Starfleet had to offer." He paused, and then waved a hand. "Think about it this way. Imagine that some of our goodies had been made public; take the Sociable device for example." Sash gave him a blank look, but Zach plowed on. "Genesis take 2, the ability to terraform a new planet in hours, with no unstable side effects. The Federation Council would LOVE this!" he waved his arms wildly, "No more shortages, no more shortage of space, we're SAVED!" Zach suddenly stopped, "But then, what happens in a war, one we might loose?" There would be much chest thumping, many tears, but those great men and women in the Senate halls would eventually vote to use said device not as a savior, but as a weapon. And whereas I won't say I would disagree with its use as such, Doenitz decided that the temptation would be too great. And mind you, that's only one device of the dozens we found... plus all the other little stuff we managed to cobble together with a mix of technologies." "Thus he covered the whole group in 20 levels of secrecy, and all that is suggested by it. That was the story anyway; I've always had my private doubts. Doenitz built his empire with these humble beginnings... but that's a story for another night, I digress." He thumbed the device he was using as he talked. "I took command of operations after a while; I was recruited fresh out of the Academy. I was never quite indoctrinated; I'm here after all- instead of there. But I believed enough that I played along where I had to; the powers we were playing with were awesome and not meant for us... You wonder how I knew enough to find the mole on Nimitz before? Because I placed moles of his sort. I used the kinds of destructor programs that had been placed. I ordered ships to their doom as Doenitz tried doing to the Nimitz" He smiled grimly, "And the trick with the neurotoxin and the truth drug was one of the first things a high-level officer learned in that group. We left lots of bodies, all in the name of Federation Security." He leaned forward and grabbed a small crystal decanter of brandy and poured two glasses as he continued talking, "The simple answer to your question is I was there when they were dug up. That's how I know about all of his goodies. I was either there, or I received regular reports. I was always in charge of the biggest but it was part of my position to maintain secrecy, so I would be given regular reports, usually the same ones that went to Rodrigo." Zach picked up the two tumblers and offered one to Sash, "After a time it became less about what was good for the Federation and more what was good for Doenitz. That was how ships started disappearing, rather then other methods which could have been used. More, and then more, started dying. Others were simply never seen again." Zach tipped the glass and swallowed the entire slug of brandy. "But that was only the half of it." (reply: Sash) (posted by Trout) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Personal Quarters - CSO, Lt. Com. Holis Gralen - 0735) Holis got up from behind the desk after looking at the evenings reports, the discovery of a black hole in a nearby star system picqued his interest as well as a peculiar energy form from a formerly vacant star system that might denote the rise of some new race of beings which needed to be forwarded to Sash. ~Speaking of Sash....~ Now would be a good time to have that discussion and since he had a good lead in. "Computer what is the location of Captain Sash?" [Captain Sash is currently in Zachary Falthgoods quarters.] Holis' face took on a hard look. ~A perfect opportunity indeed.~ "Computer shut down." The screen blanked as he picked up the data disc and made for the door. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Personal Quarters - CO - Captain Devan Sash- 0734) "I told you I worked for him once, this isn't enough?" Falthgood tried to be flip, but it wasn't working for him this time. "Ummm... no," Sash replied, flatly. "I'm afraid this time I'll need a little bit more." He could see Falthgood thinking before speaking. He was weighing his options. Now Tahl had to decide if what he was saying was the truth. The real truth. Falthgood went into his "dark story". The sound of his drumming fingers ceased and he began to speak. He talked of the beginning of his relationship with a then Commander Doenitz. A long time ago indeed. Then he made reference to a "Sociable device." The reference was lost on the captain, and apparently it showed on his face. "Genesis take 2, the ability to terraform a new planet in hours, with no unstable side effects. The Federation Council would LOVE this!" he waved his arms wildly, "No more shortages, no more shortage of space, we're SAVED!" He could see the logic of what he was saying about the uses of such a tool. If they were ever used as a weapon, the results would be... devatating, even genocidal. Keeping such knowledge under lock and key made sense, to a point. As long as the people holding the keys were trustworthy and stable. This is when the story got interesting. Falthgood continued his story of his installation to power, and his control over the Black Ops department. He had figured, through the holes in his record, that there was a great deal more than he was saying. He agreed with the comment that they were playing with things that they weren't meant to, at least not yet. Then he listened to Falthgood's confession. In a way he felt like a priest. It was as if he were pouring his soul out for the CO, as he was pouring out the brandy. He listened, surprised, as much by the confession as to what he'd done. He knew that in telling Sash this, he was giving him an offering of trust. The question probably gong through the big man's head was, what was Sash going to do now. The spying was not so much a shock, but the killing, and murder, all in the name of Starfleet? However, his face remained a mask of dispassion. "The simple answer to your question," he finally said, "is I was there when they were dug up. That's how I know about all of his goodies. I was either there, or I received regular reports. I was always in charge of the biggest but it was part of my position to maintain secrecy, so I would be given regular reports, usually the same ones that went to Rodrigo." Sash looked at the drink that was being offered. It seemed rather symbolic. Would Sash accept the man after what he had just told him? The Angossian reached out and took the cup. He' s certain that the people of Angossia Prime would have many... fairy tales about his own exploits during the war there. "After a time it became less about what was good for the Federation and more what was good for Doenitz. That was how ships started disappearing, rather then other methods which could have been used. More, and then more, started dying. Others were simply never seen again." Zach tipped the glass and swallowed the entire slug of brandy. "But that was only the half of it." Sash wasn't sure he wanted to hear the other half. He wasn't much of a drinking man, but looking at the Brandy in his hand he was certain that this was a time that he could sure use a good one. He tipped the glass to his lips and drank down the sweet drink. He opened his mouth to speak when the door chime went off. Sash turned to look at Falthgood, who returned his look of surprise. "Were you expecting anyone else?" Sash asked. (reply Falthgood) (posted by Al Muir) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Personal Quarters - CSO, Lt. Com. Holis Gralen - 0740) Holis stopped outside the door to Falthgoods quarters and steeled himself before pressing the chime, he was going to get some answers this morning or there would be hell to pay. Pressing the chime he waited for the reply then walked through the door. (Reply: Sash, Falthgood) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Nimitz - Security Target Range - Yeoman Ansia Rozen - 0815) "No matter how good you may be, there will always be someone better," he said philosophically. "Better, faster, stronger, or just tougher. What will you do then? How will you protect the captain then?" "You were the first." She answered breathing hard. "I will protect the captain with my life, sir." "Now you see the importance of learning to use a phaser," he said. Ansia was starting to like this Tagon, he spoke as a teacher. He spoke only with factness and not accusation as most others do when they confronted her. She was also starting to understand the importance of a varity of attack forms from physical to energy. As he helped her to her feet he finished what he was saying. "But you've got spunk. I like that." He actually complimented her and she did not know what to do about that, she had never really been complimented that wasn't sarcastic. She looked at him thoughtfully for a moment before answering him. "Having the ability to move in close quarters is a good thing to have, but, not an all conclusive one. The ability to switch to another form of defense, is always a good thing in case one is not viable or fails. I am beginning to see what everyone was saying now, sir." She hoped her answer was what he was looking for and it seemed to be at least good enough. "Shall we begin again," he said. "Yes, sir I am ready now." She answered him a lot more at ease but a lot more tired. "Retrieve your weapon, and we'll start slowly, at level 1." "Aye, sir" Ansia answered as she walked over to the wall and retrieved her weapon. Tagon then went through the proper safety procedures with the weapon before she was even able to power it up. He also went through recharging, rearming and the procedures for cleaning the weapon after use. Ansia was then marched out onto the court where there was a line, which, Tagon called the firing line. He then taught her the various stances and hand positions that she should know when firing a weapon. He put her through the standing slightly sideways as to give them lesser of a target he told her, the prone stance, over barricade and around barricade stance, and the squared shoulder stance. Now she was ready for the actual firing practice. "Now, the most important thing when firing a weapon," Tagon finally said, "is to relax." He put a heavy hand on her shoulder, trying to be reassuring. "Just relax." "Sir how do you actually, just relax?" She asked genuinely wondering. "Knowing that you are about to kill someone? In hand to hand, you do it without thinking as they are right there trying to do the same to you." "It's pretty much the same thing," the Brikar told her. "And remember, you don't have to kill with a phaser." "But sir, if you miss the target, doesn't it go until it hits something? Whereas, in hand to hand, you either hit your opponent or you don't hit anything." She was afraid that if she missed that someone innocent might get hit instead. Tagon squared her to face him and looked down upon her. It looked as if he were turning his head side to side, checking that nobody was watching, or listening, but as he had no neck, to speak of, the movement looked awkward. With a sigh that bordered on a look of pain he spoke, "You cannot worry about others. In a firefight you must only be concerned about yourself. Imagine yourself all alone, in a pool of water, floating. Nobody to bother you. Like you're on a deserted island. That is how you relax. You must put all other thoughts out of your head." Dru looked at her severely, "And if you ever tell anyone I said that to you, you won't have to worry about anyone shooting you." he figured his look said it all. "So, in other words it needs to come natural and automatic. If it does then more than likely you will hit what you aim at and if it doesn't then it is more likely to miss." She stated then added more as she thought about what he said, "And you should worry about the others after the battle is won, not during. To worry during a battle could get yourself and others killed needlessly." She said as he looked at her, then she added. "Sir, what we say or do in here between us, stays here." "Good ," Tagon said as if he didn't care. "Let's give it a go. Computer, level one, stationary target." A red target appeared in the air. "Now Yeoman, shoot the target."
